Upper Mustang is a remote and isolated region of Nepal, located in the northern part of the Annapurna mountain range. It is known as the “Forbidden Kingdom” because it was off-limits to foreigners until 1992. The area is still restricted, and special permits are required to enter. This has helped to preserve the region’s unique culture, history, and traditions.<\/p>

The people of Upper Mustang are predominantly of Tibetan origin and follow Tibetan Buddhism. The area has a rich cultural and historical heritage, with many ancient monasteries, palaces, and temples to visit. The Tiji Festival, held in Lo Manthang, is a significant cultural event that draws visitors from all over the world.<\/p>

The terrain of Upper Mustang is arid and rugged, with high peaks, deep canyons, and rock formations. The views of the Himalayas are stunning, with peaks such as Dhaulagiri and Annapurna visible from the trekking route.<\/p>

Wildlife in the area is sparse, but some animals like snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, and blue sheep can be spotted in the mountains. There are also many species of birds and flora and fauna to observe.<\/p>

The food in Upper Mustang is influenced by Tibetan cuisine, with dishes such as momos (dumplings), thukpa (noodle soup), and yak meat dishes being popular. The area is also known for its unique salt from the Kali Gandaki River.<\/p>
